Explanation of Terms
African Dance - Defined by its emphasis on rhythm, embodying the
spirit of the dance.. African dance may combine movements of any parts of
the body, from the eyes to the toes and the focus on a certain part of the
body might have a particular social significance.
Bowing: Each Daily Exercise ends with a
bow. The bow is traditionally a Japanese ritual movement, giving thanks.
Breathwork:
BI – breathing in or intrinsic breath.
This can be to the count of one, two three or four. eg BI1, BI2, BI3 etc
BO – breathing out or extrinsic breath. This can be to
the count of one, two three or four, eg BO1, BO2, BO3 etc
Figure of 8 -
A Chi exercise,
performed with hands which move from the base chakra up and around to
heart, crossing over and then slowly circling up and around the face to the
crown. Derived from the Buddhist 8 - fold path.
Hyperextension - Extending
the angle of a joint beyond 180 degrees.
In-Tension - using Chakras, tensioning, release, working synchronously in
time and space.
Isolation - Moving individual parts of the
body independently of others.
Palm orientation – for the purpose of focused
energetics it is essential to have flat palms at all times in order to
fully process, intentionalise, channel and open the energy body.
5 Rites - A Buddhist exercise, centering and ground exercise, ritual
repetition.
Repetition - Movements are repeated again
and again for enhancing the effect.
Visualisation - Used a mental warmup to
prepare movers for the exercise activity, as a relaxation technique, or to
refocus at the end of the session.
