DAILY MOOD EXERCISE
What does it mean to
feel emotional? Feeling emotional refers to a heightened sense of being
in touch with one’s feelings, sometimes to the point of acute sensitivity and
anguish. This can be a result of hormones, chemical balances in the brain, or
may be triggered by the actions of another person. Often one may even lose a
sense of objectivity to one’s surroundings. It often seems as though an
emotional person is overreacting. A great way to
balance negative or heightened emotional levels is to simply release the pent
up feelings. A short meditation or guided breathwork session can help as
well. Alternatively, visualisation
techniques are an excellent way to regain composure, balance and objectivity. Guided visualisation
to release pent-up emotion 1)
Imagine you are in a large field
of deep red poppies. The wind is blowing softly and there is nothing but the
echo of the warm wind around your body, holding and supporting you. Slowly
being to imagine that you are one of the flowers, and feel yourself supported
by a thin stem with a beautiful velvet crown. Start to sway in rhythm with
the other flowers in the field and imagine a great sense of belong and
collective consciousness. Imagine your breathe is an extension of the breeze –
as you BI and
BO rhythmically.
Continue this for 5 minutes. 2)
Breathe in and then as you BO imagine you are
swimming downwards into a deep cold ocean, where the icy cold water seems to
wrap itself eerily around you. As you do this your head is facing down toward
the floor and you are holding your in-breath. Slowly turn your head upward and begin to inhale
a long BI as
you imagine you are swimming up towards the surface, which is warm and light
and clear. A you rise imagine there
are dolphins, seals and other marine creatures swimming up with you., helping
you to get to the surface. Repeat 5 times. Remember (do try this at home!) BI
– breathing in or intrinsic breath. This can be to the count of one, two three or four.. eg BI1, BI2, BI3 etc BO – breathing out or extrinsic breath. This
can be to the count of
one, two three or four, eg BO1, BO2,
BO3 etc |
